Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Internal Revenue Service has had to operate with significantly reduced staff and resources for some time and are currently still backlogged in the processing of orders. Many of our clients are experiencing delays in receiving the EIN number for their new companies.
EIN orders made through Harvard Business Services are submitted online, when available (see below) or by fax. Orders are not mailed or sent by any other means.
Please note: our staff does not have any additional information beyond what is indicated below about when the IRS will return to normal operations.
We will update this page with new information when we receive it.
Updated: August 19, 2020
Orders are being processed within our normal 3-5 business day window. We will deliver the number to you as soon as we receive it from the IRS. If your application is not initially approved by the IRS, it must be resubmitted via fax (see below).
Status: Processing, Expect Delays of 45 business days or more
The IRS began accepting faxes again in June, after a shutdown of several months. Applications are currently being submitted for our clients in the order they are received. We will provide email confirmation to clients once their application has been faxed.
We have been informed by the IRS that they are experiencing delays of 45 days or more. While we are checking with them everyday to see if the delay period is shrinking, we cannot predict how long it will take them to catch up and resume a normal turnaround time of 7-21 business days.
